although I know some (cough*ScottSmith*cough) who run them on the street.
Biggest problem I find is that they don't work really effectively until they start to reach their operating temp ~ 200deg F. They stick at lower temps, but they aren't designed for it. Kind of a waste on the street, as a good UHP or MaxP tire will be as good at that level and last a helluva lot longer. A little hard to achieve and maintain that temp driving on the street.
All I see in a decent tire for stock wheel sizes is the uber pricey Michelin Pilot Sport... with the higher treadwear rating, one should get a few seasons out of them at least.
